This is probably my favourite net label so far and I've only just begun to scratch the surface of the material they have available for free download. Really you just need to dive in and see what they have on offer, it's part of the excitement not knowing quite what you are going to hear....so turn off all your indie by numbers nonsense and go listen to something a bit different, open your ears. I'll be plugging this label again as It's going to take me about six months to work through all their delights...go on, just click on their name up there and you will magically appear at their site and just head for the MP3 section. Happy listening.

If you get through that, you may want to check out the various oddities over at Shabby Records, not quite so much on offer but still plenty of sounds away from the straight & narrow.

Finally for this time, if you need something to calm you down, stretch your mind and get those brain cells ticking over visit CtrlAltCanc who specialise in bringing you field recordings, experimental sounds, electroacoustic etc. Plenty of fascinating material to tune into and well worth a visit.

So there you go, don't forget to mail the labels to let them know what you think. All the MP3s are free to download from these net labels...they just want you to hear the artists.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1150745690110648632006-06-19T20:20:00.000+01:002006-06-19T20:34:50.126+01:00Scream-a-long Records + Lepers + PinkPube Records. It's been a while once again, I really should come back and look after the web skimming garden a bit more often. Needless to say there are hundreds of net labels out there offering free music and plenty of sites offering far more extensive lists on where to find them but it can take hours sifting through them so I hand pick one or two that I find interesting and hope that someone bothers to read this and check the labels out!

Now, a vast majority of the net labels seem to release electronic music of one sort or the other, so for all those that like something a little more extreme I give you Screamalong Records coming at you from the pits of Worthing! If some death/cybergrind/IDM music tickles your fancy and you want to check out the likes of VomitKrusher, Fuckunt, Slut Crush & Snuff Fetish (you get the idea!) then click on the link above and enjoy the sick sounds that await and I'll see you in hell. (Check out the xmas release...classic!)

If you want something a little less harsh, then check out Italian label Lepers who have an odd collection of material that needs exploring...just go and listen.

Finally this time, we head to Malta to look at some Pink Pube electronic noises that shift from minimal techno to harsh beats and once again, well worth exploring.

Still trying to find a decent free net label that offers some simple indie guitar tunes, if anyone knows of one, please point me in the right direction.

Thankyou for listening.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1145627086760749532006-04-21T14:36:00.000+01:002006-04-21T14:44:46.776+01:00YukiYaki + Free Sample ZoneTime to go and discover some more lovely sounds.

First head over to the shiny YukiYaki site where they have a handful of free releases at the moment, lovely bleepy, minimal electronic things bubbling away with plenty more to come and stylish art work.

When you have downloaded that lot, point your browser at the Free Sample Zone where much of the work has been created using good old fashioned cut n paste techniques by one person though there are releases by a few other artists available too. Plenty to wade through at this site & lots of nice surprises lurking...should keep you busy for another few weeks, just got to find time now to listen to it all.

And while I'm here, don't forget to keep checking in on the V/Vm 365 project (see previous two posts for link), lots of good stuff going on and all free of course.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1142852123236053482006-03-20T10:45:00.000+00:002006-03-20T10:59:47.416+00:00Slipper + Transmitters + You Are Not Stealing RecordsA very nice Netlabel from Portugal called You Are Not Stealing Records whom release all their material FREE to download including covers, are releasing some material by good friends of mine, Slipper & Transmitters.

The Transmitters were jerky post punk who in the late 70s, early 80s shared stages with the like of The Slits, The Fall & Alternative TV...this is the first time this material has been available for a very long time so go get a slice for free.

In the Transmitters was a nice man by the name of Sam Dodson who later emerged in Loop Guru (who have a fine album coming out later this year); Slipper is his own project outside of Loop Guru and is described as "Exotica for the 21st Century", a seductive mix of electronica, lounge, jazz & experimental sounds. You can hear them and find links to Loop Guru at Slipper and they too have an album being released by the Not Stealing lot.

Below are all the details you need:

'Yes it's true!! First up we have the delightful sounds from Sundays In Spring who have this to say of their net label :

"Our goal as an indie netlabel is to favor the intimate, bucolic and melancholic colors. We want to defend musicians who share a similar sensitivity.Take care."

Beautiful delicate stuff it is too.

Something old next and you may wonder why I am called Grebo? Well, check out one of the best Grebo bands there ever was in Gaye Bykers On Acid and wrap your filth encrusted ears around Everything's Groovy and then whatever other debris is floating about. They were a fine band and this is a nice site with plenty of info and tunes. This is why I am called Grebo!

Don't forget to check out the V/vm 365 project as mentioned in the last post, it's been running for around six weeks now and I'm loving it as they say on the TV ads. I'm enjoying the daily picture and writings as much as the music, well worth checking out.

Over and out.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1135335777633095922005-12-23T10:57:00.000+00:002005-12-23T11:02:57.646+00:00V/VM Test RecordsNot been by for a while so thought it was time to update with a project that will keep you going for the whole of 2006! Head over to V/VM Test Records, home of fucked up beats and mashed up recycling where you will find over 600 mp3s on offer for your delight and a final project that starts on the 1st January 2006 called V/VM 365 - A digital media recycle bin, where daily audio will be given away for people to use and abuse. They also want people to support this by spreading the word and getting involved with remixing so head over to the website and make some noise.

Have a fine festive time and see you on the other side.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1130272413052021762005-10-25T21:26:00.000+01:002005-10-25T21:33:33.056+01:00Bedroom BrainYeah, I'm back and so quickly following on from the last entry with the never less than interesting Bedroom Brain net label that mixes up it's styles in great fashion. As a starter head for the lo-fi bedroom pop of The Sewing Circle, then treat yourself to some casio-core by way of lo-fi bluesy-pop (so it says!) of Yakzweeper then round it off with a slice of noise-rock from the Japanese band Zero Orientation. If you want seconds delve in and help yourself to what ever takes your fancy and don't forget to go and say thankyou to the nice people.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1130270896560375272005-10-25T21:01:00.000+01:002005-10-25T21:08:16.566+01:00KikapuWhere does the time go? Anyway, this lovely little net label should keep you going until I manage to get back here as Kikapu have a massive 83 releases to search through; the artists that have caught my ear so far being the dreamy Crashed By Car, the quirky indie pop of Space Plans and the mash up of synth & guitars that is No Tech. I've still got plenty to wade through so happy listening and do make sure you visit the band websites and tell them how lovely they are!Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1127682666626434262005-09-25T22:09:00.000+01:002005-09-25T22:11:06.633+01:00Highpoint Lowlife Records + 8Bit RecordsHighpoint Lowlife is a label started by a couple of people with an interest in everything from shoegazing to electronica and their label reflects this. They have a range of tracks from their releases for free download as well as a few web only tracks to investigate.Until March 2004, Highpoint Lowlife had an offshoot MP3 label called 8Bit Records that played host to many weird and wonderful electronic noises. Luckily for us they have kept the tunes archived and there are a fair number to wade through, I haven't even scratched the surface yet but I like what I hear! Head for their list of artists, shut your eyes and let your mouse decide what little treat you will hear...and of course, all for free.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1123518224685762232005-08-08T17:17:00.000+01:002005-08-08T17:23:44.690+01:00WM RecordingsInto the third week of school holidays and I've got five minutes to myself so I want to point you all in the direction of WM Recordings, sister label to Comfortstand I believe. Another fine free net label giving it to you out of the goodness of their hearts; they release whatever they think sounds good so you will find all sorts hidden in their release section from chill out via world music to synth pop. Should keep you going until next time...I really should get myself one of them there poddy things to put all this goodness on. Nearly school holidays already when my 8 year old will control my life so a quick addition to the downloads guide. Today we have two fine net labels giving it all away free because they want to and they want YOU to hear it.

First up, from Basle in Switzerland, we have Interdisco and more fine electronic based ear food...just dive in and see what you find, it's all tasty.

Then move over to Comfortstand who release whatever pleases them as long as they like it. Here, it really is a case of digging around and discovering absolute gems..I still haven't finished paddling in the sparkling rock pools...this will keep you busy for weeks!

Until next time whenever that may be....Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1118323345815607772005-06-09T14:04:00.000+01:002005-06-09T14:22:25.820+01:00Alpine Chic + James Ray/4080PeruIt's that time again, so crank up those computers for something new and something old to tickle those dancing feet.

First up are Alpine Chic coming at you from Zurich. They are a net label giving it all away free along with the artwork. What are they giving you? Lots of tasty electronic music from the Swiss underground music scene; it's all good so dive in and cover yourself and then lick it off the person next to you. Tastes good doesn't it?

Now for something old and slightly darker. James Ray emerged way back then when Goth was Goth, first with his Performance and then his Gangwar. A few tracks were produced by The Sisters Of Mercy mainman Andrew Eldritch and they turned out dark electronic music...goth with beats if you like. A large number have been put up at James Ray so go check it out if you like a bit of eyeliner with your history.

4080Peru is the latest James Ray project and they have a 50 minute piece of music for download called Empty White Boxes, a minimal shape shifting beast of pulses and barely there landscapes.

So, plenty to keep you going there, until next time...Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1116880111943757592005-05-23T21:17:00.000+01:002005-05-23T21:28:31.950+01:00Martin White + Smart MusicOver 40 mp3s on offer over at the site of Martin White where you will find a host of treasures in the form of cover versions done on a 72-bass piano accordion. Sample his takes on Gary Numan, Human League, Nick Cave, Blur, The Smiths, Franz Ferdinand, Depeche Mode and many more. I believe he takes requests too, could be interesting!

Those in search of free dance music should check out the Smart Music website. Basically they do this web skimming lark in a far more professional way than me and have a goldmine of electronica, hip hop, house and god knows what else along with the odd indie and pop track. They dig up only free and legal tracks and take the effort out of searching for new sounds. Enough material here to keep you going for weeks.Grebohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14281294902965485998noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11598267.post-1116063774092211262005-05-14T10:34:00.000+01:002005-05-14T10:42:54.096+01:00Ninja MassacreNinja Massacre featured twice in my top ten singles of 2004, find out why I like his lo-fi electro-punk so much at Ninja Massacre where he has just added some new sounds. I thought it was time for more free sounds. First up how about The Playlouder Singles Club for all your latest indie sounds? You do have to register for this one but you can opt to receive no mail from them and you do get full access to tracks dating back to June 02 from the likes of The Futureheads, The Blood Group, Franz Ferdinand, Tom Vek, Art Brut, Towers Of London and 65daysofstatic. A good way of hearing some of these bands before handing over your cash! Three tracks on offer each month.

Elsewhen Records is the label set up by Sam Dodson of Loop Guru to release music by his other projects Thaw and Slipper. Anyone who read the VP Top Tens of 2004 will see Slipper featured in both my album and single choices; superb dark Jazz with sexy beats, soundtracks for Invisible Movies. In the near future expect pointers to individual tracks, net labels who offer their entire catalogue for free and some fun stuff. The honour of being first goes to Thee Moths, a band that revels in the joys of DIY recording and has had numerous releases out. On offer is a free download going by the name of ‘Folk EP’, it’s beautiful glitch-folk, traditional Scottish sounds, field recordings transformed into fractured brilliance. You can find it at www.petpiranha.com or via the news page over at www.theemoths.co.uk.

If you are after something a tad more direct, then these two tracks are top-notch fun, pogo along to 'Ray Of Gob' a welding together of the Pistols and Madonna while 'Breakin My Bloody Process' melts Kasabian, The Music and My Bloody Valentine into a full on baggy fest. Find them and more at Go Home Productions.skifhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03611935963292986777noreply@blogger.com0
